Bubblegum Lemonade Sounds Awesome Doesn’t It? #quenchnation

You know how adults are supposed to like cocktails and kids are supposed to like sweet drinks? Well, I’m the kind of person who never developed the palate for adult drinks. I don’t drink beer. I stay away from hard liquors after a pair of hangovers in college. You don’t want to know. Let’s just say I’m a very happy drunk and leave it at that, shall we?!

Anyway so sweet drinks are my thing. Give me a Fuzzy Navel or a Melon Drop and I am as happy as a clam. The sweeter the better. I might sip a more traditional bar drink, but my drothers are the sweet drinks. You?

I had a chance to sample not one but three very sweet drinks last week. I was at a @TheDCMoms blogging event last week at a new restaurant in Montgomery County — Quench.

I recognized the address — Traville Gateway — but couldn’t immediately place why I knew it. As I arrived I knew exactly why I knew the street name. I took classes at the Universities of Shady Grove about 4 years ago. In fact, if it hadn’t been for the intense graphic design class I took at USG this little ole blog would not even be here for you to read. I started this blog while I was a student. Graphic design was not my thing, but blogging and social media is, so in a way my time at USG was life-changing or at least job altering.

But, back to Quench. I met up with Sandie, Robin, Jodi, and Jessica for drinks, appetizers and dinner — a kind of a sampler platter of the best that Quench has to offer. I don;t get to see my The DC Moms friends as often as I would like, so it was fun to sit and chat and of course eat! The decor was browns, golds, with metal accents. The bar was in the middle of the restaurant. There were a variety of seating areas…tables, bar stools, and cozy couches. Before the first sip and bite, we we were warmly greeted by Quench servers and Michael Holstein, the owner.

Our first cocktail was delish! Served in a tiny fluted glass the Studio 310 Kir brought me back to a Kir Royal I had in the 80s. I tell you I’m not much of a drinker! Anyway, the sweet Kir drink was garnished with a curl of lemon rind. One of the other cocktails was garnished with a curl of orange peel. Very nice presentation. All the drinks we had were particularly delicious. The final drink was an especially sweet treat…Bubblegum Lemonade. Actually this drink is from the Kidz Drink section of the menu. Yum. Slurp!

Corn Beignets AKA Hush Puppies 2.0
Chickpea Tacos — one taco was very filling as it contained garlic-citrus chickpea mash and whole chick peas as well as radish, tomato, and cilantro
Crab Balls
Crackers and brie sauce to dip
Melon Panzanella Salad — I’ve never had fruit in a salad and liked it, until this salad. The watermelon was succulent and just sweet, but not too sweet. I like a sweet drink, but I’m not fond of too-sweet fruit. Go figure!
