More often than not, I had kids at three different schools. That’s 3 sets of emails, different days off, multiple health and safety alerts, and a slew of grading notices from three schools. At one time, I had 1 kid in a public elementary school, 1 kid in a public high school, and 1 kid in a private high school. Phew! So I had to navigate 2 school systems with of course different days off. On top of all this, 1 school had no school bus service so I was in 2 or 3 complicated and stressful carpools simultaneously. I survived, but just barely.
Summer was a time of rest. Rest from the hustle and bustle of the school year. Rest from the chaos. We still had sports practices, swim meets, playdates, sleepovers, and tournaments, but we were nowhere near as busy.
As you can imagine, my kids LOVED summer…probably more than I did. Reading books. Playing outside. Swimming. Sleepovers. What is not to love?! But, I’m a parent so I had to dampen their fun a bit through summer learning activities. Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do, right?
