What a winter! We are on snow day #2 this week. Before Christmas, we had another two snow days in a row, followed by a delayed opening. All three of my children had Monday off for MLK, so that makes 3 days off school in a row…and if you include the weekend, that’s FIVE days off in a row. Kids are SUPER excited of course. Mom and Dad…a little less so. I’m all for snow days. Love them. never had a single snow day as a child growing up in England, because…well…there is no snow. I love the joy on my children’s faces as they get wrapped up in the excitement of will we or won’t we have a snow day. Oh, to be a kid again!
Yesterday was all about sleeping for the teens, working for the adults, gaming for the youngest…mostly PS3, but with a little Khan Academy math thrown in for good measure. The youngest had a playdate at a neighbor’s house for sledding and outdoor play. The rest of stayed warm indoors, except for Dad who taught the teen how to drive in snow. The kids all did chores. The husband made potato soup for lunch. Snacking happened all day long. The Keurig machine was used nonstop.
On the docket today…clearing the driveway…more gaming…more eating…more napping…more writing…more filing of tax/financial aid/college applications…and finally a visit from a kitchen renovation company…hence the clearing of the driveway. After YEARS…seriously over 20 years of dealing with a kitchen with almost no counter space and full-to-the-brim cabinets. It’s taken a while. We went through the “we love our new house to bits” phase, which was followed by “the kitchen is great but why do the fridge doors bang in to the chairs no matter where we put the kitchen table” phase, which was followed shortly by the “these are the cheapest cabinets known to man” phase, and then the “No, let’s not replace the torn kitchen floor, let’s wait until we remodel and get hardwood floors” phase. We’re now in the I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS KITCHEN and if I could I would swing a sledgehammer at the wall.
So, a kitchen renovation guy is coming to talk to us. It’s a very preliminary meeting. We’ll tell him what our vision is. He’ll tell us if the changes we want to make are feasible. We’ll shoot for the moon, but probably settle for the most affordable kitchen reno option. Not having enough money to do what we want to do is a real downer, especially when there is SO much that is wrong with our kitchen.
Surely tomorrow will be school?! When school is back on a regular session, you like me will want to get out of the house with the kids:
