I’m not ashamed to admit that when my children were babies, toddlers, and preschoolers I LONGED for them to go to full day school. The school bus would appear on our street each morning and afternoon. As I was talking to my children about the kids on the bus, the wheels on the bus, and going to school, I would think wistfully about a time when all three children would go to school in that yellow school bus for a WHOLE DAY. Don’t get me wrong though. I loved having them home when they were little. We played with toys, did crafts, met up with friends for playdates, and had a great time together. I had the best of both worlds. I was a stay-at-home mom AND a work-at-home mom. But, as a work-at-home mom finding time to work when the kids were little was VERY challenging indeed.
Today I love that I can work at home when the kids are at school. Except there are all those school holidays to contend with. Not a month goes by without a federal holiday or two, or an early dismissal, or even a kid home sick. This past Monday two of my three children were home. One was out-of-town on a school trip. I did what I usually do on a day of school…SCRAMBLE! In that day we squeezed in a doctor appointment, an errand, some work for me, and quick stop for lunch.
Knowing the kids were hungry I stopped at KFC for lunch. My teen ordered the Mac and Cheese large side. Her mouth is still a little sore from her wisdom teeth surgery so she wanted to eat only soft food. My son ordered the new KFC Dip’ems Combo Meal. The meal was $5 for 3 chicken tenders, 1 biscuit, 1 side, and a drink. I swiped the Diet Coke drink that came with the Dip’ems Combo Meal. My teen swiped the mashed potatoes and gravy individual side that also came with the Dip’ems Combo Meal. We’re all about sharing in our family!
