Our eyes met over the copier. Well, not quite. Our eyes probably met as we were each focusing on something other than legal documents about a nuclear power plant. We first met in the summer of 86 at a summer job. We were both hired to be document coders for a litigation support company in May ’86. Wow, I have known my husband for a long time, haven’t I?!
I don’t recall if I met my husband the first hour, day or week of starting work for Aspen Systems. I do know that we were quickly promoted from document coding to quality control to the auditing team. You can credit our “eye for detail” for the quick promotion. We definitely had an “eye” on each other!
Even though we worked side by side all day, we wanted to each lunch together as well. Not alone, but with a group of other people who, like us, were college students home for the summer. We chatted about music, movies, books, and surviving living at home for the summer. We didn’t date that summer, although I sort of asked my husband out on a date, but it was a bust because I forgot that at 19 he was not able to go out for Happy Hour. I was a newly minted 21-year-old, but quite oblivious to who was 21 and who wasn’t. I was mad at myself for asking him out to a place that he couldn’t go.
We had a great time that summer aside from my blunders. Come fall, our letter writing evolved in to lengthy phone calls and finally to our first official date in mid October. Not to date myself, but on that date we saw Crocodile Dundee followed by pizza at Godfather’s where we closed the place down. Yep, we chatted as the workers vacuumed around our feet. Oblivious! Young love!
So my dating life was brief. I started dating my husband when I was just 21 and was married by 25. I hadn’t had much dating experience, so I can’t relate to the high jinx that is the life of commitment phobic Adam Sandler in Just Go With It. I was sent a DVD…I haven’t watched it…but from the reviews it looks very funny. Adam Sandler teams up with his assistant — Jennifer Aniston — in this flick.
I want to share Just Go With It with you. I have an Just Go With It DVD for one lucky reader!
