About 2 months ago I drove down Main Street in Mount Airy and almost crashed my car. Okay, Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration — no crash, but I might have slapped my hands on the steering wheel. Folks it does not take much to get me excited! Obviously…
What was the cause of my outburst? BTW, I have been overusing the word “outburst” with 6 year old due to his need to have his own way. He comes by this trait naturally as I am all about having my own way. But, with 3 children, a husband, and an extended family, I have to cave like nobody’s business when it comes to what I want to do. My son needs to learn that just because he is the youngest in the family and rather cute he will not be able to get his way all. the. time.
So back to my outburst — California_Tortilla is open in Mount Airy, Maryland. It opens today! The first 10 people in line at 11am will get free burritos every week for a year . Yee-ha!
Never fear! If you’re not one of the first 10 people in line at 11am, the next 20 will still get a free burrito every week for a month!
To give some perspective on why I am excited about this opening, I live in a semirural part of Howard County. MD. In my town we consider ourselves fortunate to have a McDonald’s, a Pizza Hut, a Chinese takeout restaurant, and a barbecue restaurant at the gas station. So, the addition of a California Tortilla in the nearby town of Mount Airy makes our eating out options much more palatable.

Musings on standing in line at an opening… This brings me back to a time when I stood in line at the opening of the Leisure Center in Wilmslow, Cheshire, England. [Note: Leisure center in England means a community center with a pool, a gym, and other amenities. As a child my dad would take us swimming to the Sale Leisure Center every Sunday while my mother and Grandma cooked Sunday dinner.] My sister and I got up very early for us — 8 a.m. on a Saturday. Walked to the leisure center expecting to see a huge line of people. Uh no, it was just little old us standing in line for 2 hours waiting for the Grand Opening. Uh no, it was not so much a “grand” opening more of a man opening the door to let us in kind of thing. No tape. No huge pair of scissors cutting the tape. No dignitaries and honorable people. Remember this is England so we have lords and ladies to spare.
I can almost taste the Classic Burrito in a bowl with a Diet Coke and chips and queso! Yummo!
