My teen was surprised to hear me talk about all the trendy clothes I wore in college. She literally stopped eating when she heard me say that I shopped at a couple of stores in Georgetown, a very trendy, hip part of Washington, D.C. Yep, even though she only sees me in workout clothes or the occasional work outfit, I was once a person who followed fashion trends.
The 2013 me is very far from fashion forward. Though I have excised the very unflattering baggy pants and shirts from my wardrobe, I am not up on trends. Part of the issue is that I only shop online. I work from home, so when I leave my house I'm more likely to be grocery shopping or running a kid to a sports practice than window shopping at the mall.
If you haven't guessed, I am an on-the-go-fashion person. My preference is for stylish pants and a flattering shirt if I am going to a meeting, event, or a conference. But, lately I am given serious thought to dresses. I reviewed a dress last summer, which I absolutely loved. I'd forgotten that a dress can make you feel so, well for want of a better word, dressed up. A dress forces me to sit in a ladylike way…no slouching, please. A dress makes me choose my shoes…no sensible shoes, please.
But, and there is always a but isn't there? If I wear a dress, I can't wear my beloved pants. I live in pants, jeans, and workout wear. Do I even own a pair of tights? No nonsense tights and leggingsNo nonsense tights and leggings is a brand that when I wore skirts and dresses to work I bought. No nonsense tights lasted longer than other brands. Plus, No nonsense tights/leggings can be easily found at food & drug stores, as well as mass retail stores. I liked that I didn't have to go to the mall or specialty store to buy tights or leggings.
Because I need a refresher course in fashion, No nonsense asked me to test out Polyvore.com. I'd heard about Polyvore, but had not used it much. I quickly created an outfit that an on-the-go person like myself might wear. What do you think?
You see I paired a heavy dress with black tights. The chunky boots add a bit of "me" to the outfit. I do love my comfortable shoes! While the dress is a bit pricey, the No nonsense tights and leggings are affordable.
And fashionistas and even those like me who were once fashionistas and now need a refresher course, will be pleased to learn that No nonsense have a new Brand Ambassador. That's right No nonsense have tapped Jill Martin to be their spokesperson. Jill is an Emmy-awarding TV personality and co-author of the New York Times bestselling style guide: I Have Nothing to Wear. She's also the New York Correspondent for Access Hollywood.
