I remember looking down. I remember seeing the blueness of the strap. I remember stroking the metal face. I remember absolutely loving my first wrist watch. I was 8. My parents gave me that watch for my birthday. I was still learning to tell time. At recess, I would press my face against the window to my classroom and puzzle out the hands of the clock. The big hand is on the one and the little hand is on the… Once I got my watch I didn’t have to look for a clock as I had one on my wrist. I was so excited. Getting a watch was a big kid thing. I can still remember the feeling off complete hopelessness as I quickly picked up my watch out of the puddle, dried it on my sweatshirt, and stared at it. I knew it was not fixable. I didn’t have a birthday for months. I had to make do without a watch until I got a new one. 
- My husband says that kids don’t wear wrist watches any more. He says they use their phone as a watch. He should know…he’s a high school teacher. I know what he is saying, but I’m sure when these kids get jobs, they’ll realize the value of wearing a watch. I know I did. And still do.
