Whenever I think of Disney movies,my first thought is always the Wonderful World of Disney. I watched the Wonderful World of Disney on TV as a child. We only had a black and white TV back then so I didn’t get the benefit of all the bright colors. This was in 1970s New Jersey, when most people had color TVs. My parents were recent immigrants from England where not everyone had a TV in their home, so having a black and white TV was an upgrade. Even in black and white, the experience of watching the opening montage of the Wonderful World of Disney was amazing. I remember that Tinkerbell and her wand would sparkle signalling that the Wonderful World of Disney was about to begin.
Watching the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday evenings was a treat. My mother was very strict about bedtime, but I always got to stay up later even though it was a school night. I don’t remember all of the films I saw, but a few stick out in my memory…The Shaggy Dog, The Shaggy D.A., Herbie the Love Bug, Herbie Rides Again, and of course all those animal movies. I wasn’t as interested in the animal moviesI set in the Sahara or the jungle, but I still watched the Wonderful World of Disney no matter what movie was showing. You can get all of these classic Disney movies on DVD!
