Looking back I had a nomadic childhood. The longest I was in one place was only 5 years. I was in most places for 2 years or so. During my childhood, my family moved from England to the U.S. back to England back to the U.S. back to England, and we even lived in Italy for a few years. I’m exhausted just thinking about all the times we moved. How did my parents do it?
One of the perks of moving so much was that we traveled often. One summer when I was about 15, my dad was in Philadelphia for a business trip. Since my mother was working that summer and my sister and I were off school, we traveled to Philadelphia to stay with him. While in Philadelphia, we took many excursions. We visited old friends where we had lived in Edison, New Jersey. We saw a Phillies game. We shopped on Society Hill. We swam at the hotel pool. Towards the end of our stay, we took a day trip to Atlantic City.
That day was a scorcher. I remember sitting under a wooden hut to keep out of the sun. I don’t recall what we ate, but I do recall walking on the boardwalk. After a day on the beach and a walk up and down the boardwalk, we stopped by Caesar’s Palace before we left. My dad wanted to check out the gaming floor before we left Atlantic City. My sister and I waited outside for a bit for my dad.
On the ride home my dad talked about how exciting the gaming floor was. I didn’t get to experience all that Atlantic City had to offer until I was in my 20s when my husband and I traveled to AC with friends one cold winter day. It was so cold we never left the casino/hotel!
Since I haven’t been back to AC, I’m looking forward to visiting Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore this coming weekend. I will be part of the #JerseyLove Social Moms Doing Social Good on June 6-9, 2013. Our group — Social Media Moms and New Jersey Digital Moms — will be at the Jersey Shore to bring much-needed attention after the devastation of Super Storm Sandy. Towns on the Jersey Shore have been extensively renovated to be ready for the summer. I’m excited to bring attention to all that the Jersey Shore has to offer on my trip. I’d love for you to follow my travels on Twitter — @MusingsfromMe — and by following hashtags — #JerseyLove #DoAC #surfskimmer. I’m SO looking forward to going to Atlantic City that I hope you will “join” me virtually as I share my experiences!
