Every so often a movie comes around that piques my interest. I start wondering when the movie will come out. I see the trailer and laugh out loud. I count the days (almost) until the movie comes out. Brave was one such movie.
This time last week I finally got to see Brave. The kids did, too. The kids and I piled in the minivan and headed to a local screening. Once we were seated with our buckets of popcorn, sodas, and candy, we couldn’t wait for Brave to start.
Our anticipation was not in vain. From the moment Brave began we were not disappointed. Merida burst on to the screen. Flaming red hair. Resourceful. Cunning.A daddy’s girl. A good big sister. Sharp shooter markswoman.
I’m a fan of movies with strong girl leads. Mulan was a particular favorite. Who could forget Mulan taking her dad’s place in the army? Merida is a strong girl, too. She is not about to let anyone make decisions in her life. Except…there’s that thorny issue of her future. Merida has her life planned out. But so does her mom. Who will have the upper hand. I won’t let the cat out of the bag. You need to see this with your daughters, and your sons.
The movie was a blast from start to finish. The kids never took their eyes of the screen. And neither did I. Have you noticed with kiddie movies that the storyline must be riveting or else you drift off to your own thoughts? Brave was too action-packed for me to think about doing anything except watch.
Brave opened in theaters Friday (June 22, 2012).
Synopsis of Brave:
Set in the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland, Disney•Pixar’s “Brave” follows the heroic journey of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to change her fate, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) andcantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane), unleashing chaos in the kingdom. When she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters), she is granted an ill-fated wish and the ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her resources—including her mischievous triplet brothers—to undo a beastly curse and discover the meaning of true bravery. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor. Opens in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.
I was given movie passes to see the screening. The views expressed in this post are my own. I follow the tenets of Blog With Integrity.
