Musings on Bikes
You know how they say that the youngest child misses out? This is so true for my family. My older kids rode bikes all the time. They came home from school, hopped on their bikes, and rode to their hearts’ content. My youngest is 4 years younger than one sibling and 7 years younger than his oldest sibling. By the time he was of “bike riding age” his siblings had long since abandoned their bikes for texting friends, watching Netflix, and hanging out in their rooms.
To compound matters, we don’t live near a lot of kids his age so there was no one for him to bike ride with after school and on weekends he tended to stay indoors. His siblings were not outside for him to play with. He didn’t even have a bike that fit. I had plans each spring to get him a bike that fit, but sports, activities, and family events always intervened.
